Week #1- BALT 4361 & 4362- Introduction

 Hello everyone, my name is Malaak Khalaf. I am a senior majoring in Health Science with a Pre-Optometry concentration. I will be graduating in May this year. I also recently received my acceptance into Optometry school and will officially start in August at Illinois College of Optometry (ICO). I am so excited to graduate and finally start learning more about the eyes!
I currently work at LasikPlus as an Optometrist Technician. I help with all testing to determine whether a patient is a candidate for LASIK surgery. I also help prepare the patient for surgery and assist with post-operative check-ins. I actually really love my job and have been working there for almost a year. I am not an early bird, but once I get to work and see my first patient, I immediately get into a good mood. My favorite part of the job is seeing the patient's reaction once they can see clearly without any correction wear.
A fun fact about me is that I love traveling. My plan after graduate school is to work a little and save money to take a month off to travel the world. Another fun fact about me is that I have gone skydiving before! It was so fun, and I can't wait to do it again. It gave me a rush of adrenaline that I did not know I needed. I rewarded myself with skydiving after passing the OAT (Optometry Admission Test).
Overall, that's a little bit about me, but I am so excited for this class and cannot wait to learn new tools I can implement in my everyday life as an optometrist.

After reading these first couple chapters, I have gained an appreciation for data skills. Prior to this class, I never realized how many jobs rely on data, even if they are not considered “data-based” careers. Learning about how data can be used in nearly every profession was extremely interesting to me. I always thought that data analysts or business intelligence analysts only worked “behind the curtains,” but it’s clear that they help the average worker succeed daily. Week 6 - BALT 4361 - Exploring Looker Studio and Data Visualization

  In chapter seven we learned about Looker Studio (previously Google Data Studio).  Honestly I did not think a free tool could be this powerful.  Prior to reading this chapter I assumed you needed to have a paid software program or know how to code at an advanced level in order to visualize your data.  I think my favorite part about Looker Studio is how user friendly it is with the ability to just drag and drop things on the page.  Learning that you can take raw data from Google Sheets or Google Analytics and turn it into something as impactful as an interactive dashboard really made data less scary for me.  It allowed me to realize that visualization is about telling a story with your data in a way that’s easy to understand. I also enjoyed how the chapter broke down Looker Studio vs Tableau.  I liked that it was very clear about Looker Studio being free and allowing you to connect to other Google products you might use.  While Tableau is great it...
